Blend with Phonics

This is our reading class after our children have some knowledge and understanding of phonetic sounds. We encourage children to blend and read the words independently. This course will prepare children for blending and decoding any unseen words.  At a higher level, children are also asked to do spelling.

The aim of this class is to promote reading independently and

confidently. The Oxford Reading Tree Songbirds series by Julia

Donaldson are the books being used in this class.

 

Level 1: 
* learning the differences between vowels and consonants 
* able to blend and decode any CVC words

​

Level 2:
* the introduction of camera words (have, I, my, said, all, was, the, he, she, to, some, come)
* continue to blend with CVC words
* the introduction of learning how to blend and decode with simple digraphs

​

Level 3:
* continue to learn how to blend and decode with combination of words including cluster sounds and digraphs
* introduce unseen dictation by randomly selecting a sentence from the storybook
* the introduction of syllables (more effective in decoding longer words)
* expanding camera words ((have, I, my, said, all, was, the, he, she, to, some, come, here, begun, like, they, do, go, oh, no, are, hello, we)

Level 4:
* learning the differences between all combinations of long vowels
* continue to learn how to blend and decode with combination of words including cluster sounds, digraphs and long vowels
* expand the skills of unseen dictation to a paragraph

* expanding camera words ((have, I, my, said, all, was, the, he, she, to, some, come, here, begun, like, they, do, go, oh, no, are, hello, we, what, you, want, one, be, there, were, your, me, says, every)
